World History 9 (White Day)
On Monday, the map activity on Christianity is due for homework. For those of you who haven't submitted the Judaism worksheet, this is your last chance for credit. We will begin our investigation of Islam with a KWL activity followed by a guided reading using the textbook. To conclude class, we will jointly create our bullet points for the Religion Comparison Matrix. For homework, students should review the Comparison Matrix of the three great monotheisms.
On Wednesday, we will begin an investigation of Hinduism using content packets. In groups, students will be responsible for identifying one of our elements for comparison (origin, holy texts, organization, beliefs, rituals, divisions). Each group will be responsible for presenting their findings to the class. There may or may not be a quiz on the three monotheisms.
On Friday, we will investigate Buddhism using our elements for comparison. The method of instruction is currently pending, due to availability of resources. The blog will be updated as soon as I have made a decision.

World History 9 CP (Green)
On Monday, we will have an introduction on our current unit: World Religions. Students will have a quiz over the two types of evidence: documents & artifacts. Then, we will have a chalk-talk activity on religion and will create a definition as a class. Lastly, we will discuss the role of religion in current events, and I will demonstrate the template which we will use to summarize current events articles. For homework, students will have a Cloze worksheet concerning the reasons why we study world religions.
On Wednesday, we will investigate Judaism. The Cloze worksheet will be due. I will introduce a comparison matrix to the students, which we will use to compare the six religions we are studying. We will investigate the origins of Judaism, its organization, its sacred texts, its beliefs, its practices, and current divisions in the religion. We will set up folders for each student in class, so that ongoing classwork will have a safe location. For homework, students will have a worksheet on the history of Judaism.
On Friday, we will investigate Christianity. The Judaism worksheet will be due. I will begin class with a short instructional lesson on how to properly use and index. Students will break into cooperative research teams. Each team will be assigned to investigate Christianity in one of the aspects on the comparison matrix (origin, organization, sacred texts, beliefs, practices, divisions). Teams will then report out, and as a class we will fill in our matrices with the essential notes. For homework over the weekend, students will have a map to interpret on the spread of Christianity.
Next week, we will discuss Islam and Hinduism.
