Sorry that this missive was later than usual, but I have been violently ill this weekend. I hope to survive the week ;-)

Because of this week's tests, I will be available after school on Wednesday for students who have questions or need to review. As always, contact me by email if you have any questions!

Cool Illustrations from Byzantine Manuscripts

Pirate-Ninja-Bear

As one of the creators of the Pirate-Ninja-Bear system of dispute resolution, I was surprised to see a Youtube video of college students employing its intricacies. PNB-mania is sweeping the nation!

Here were the original rules:

PNB plays like a more complicated form of rock-paper-scissors. Less luck based, it requires skill, cunning, and good acting.

The system requires two parties and a referee. When the referee shouts "draw," each party must select a character and mime an action. Each character has two possible actions that defeat one of the two opposing characters:

Pirate -
Slices with cutlass (defeats bear)
Shoots with pistol (defeats ninja)

Ninja -
Stabs with katana (defeats bear)
Throws shuriken (defeats pirate)

Bear -
Roars & Bites (defeats pirate)
Claws (defeats ninja)

Stalemate occurs when both parties select the same character or when actions cancel each other out (e.g., Ninja throws star at a pirate shooting pistol). If three stalemates occur in a row, the referee can declare the contest null and void and decide the matter for the parties involved in PNB.

It's that simple ;-)
