Preview of Week Beginning 10/05

This is only a four day week, as we have a teacher workshop on Friday, and a long weekend. We begin a new unit this week: New Centers of Culture. This is a historical unit, which discusses the shining lights of the Byzantine and the Arab (Umayyad,Abbasid, & Fatimid for history buffs) Empires in the (comparative) darkness of the Middle Ages. We will discuss the achievements of these two great empires, and explore how they acted as a bridge between the Ancient and the Modern Worlds.

Monday - Direct Instruction on Constantinople. Students complete an illustration of the city and a profile of Constantine the Great for homework.

Wednesday - Students will work on a Byzantine History Content Packet (guided reading) in class today, and if it is not completed, it will be homework over the long weekend. Students should complete a profile on the great Byzantine general Belisarius for homework.
