Preview for Week Beginning 03/07

This is the last instructional week for Trimester 2. If students have outstanding work or need extra help, it is important they they schedule to see me this week.

US History

On Monday, we will have our last direct instruction: Social Darwinism, the Social Gospel, & the Gospel of Wealth. There will be a summarizer. We will then spend the remaining four days reviewing the course for the Midterm, one unit at a time. Students should bring all of their materials, especially Need 2 Know Sheets.

World History CP & Honors

This is a full week, so each class will meet with me four times.
Class 1: We will finish our consideration of Columbus with a counter perspective with primary sources from Bartolome de las Casas. We will then contrast his achievements with those of Amerigo Vespucci. For homework, students will be expected to write a short evaluation of Columbus.

Class 2: We will have direct instruction on the career of Ferdinand Magellan. For homework, students will be expected to complete a formative assessment on joint-stock companies.

Class 3&4 (CP): We will begin two parts of direct instruction on the exploitation of colonies. We will discuss: colonies, triangular trade, mercantilism, Cortes, Pizzaro, and the African Slave trade. CP students will be asked to complete a formative worksheet on the mission system. Hon students will be asked to complete a primary source reading on the colonization of the Philippines (Miguel Lopez de Legaspi). For homework over the weekend, students are being asked to work on their Need 2 Know sheets over the weekend.
