Class Preview for the Week Starting 05/05/08

White Day (CP), Block 4:

This week, students will discuss the transition of the Hellenistic to the Roman worlds and the impact of geography on the
development of the Roman Republic. On Tuesday, students will have a quiz on the Greek world. They will then take notes on the Golden Age of Greece on an inquiry chart and will have a packet on the Hellenistic World for homework. On Thursday, we will research in class the Greeks who most influenced the later world. We will then begin a worksheet on the geography of Rome. Over the weekend, students will be expected to complete the geography worksheet and a guided reading on the foundation of the Roman Republic.


Red Day (Hon), Block 4:

This week, students will begin our investigation of Rome with a discussion of the Republic. On Monday, we will analyze in groups the creation of the Roman Republic and its constitutional form. For homework, students will have a packet on the successful growth of the Roman Republic. On Wednesday, we will have a class discussion concerning the modern Roman heritage: law, architecture, a cultural synthesis. We will watch a video on Roman engineering. For homework, there will be a short guided reading. On Friday, we will discuss the social structure in the Roman Republic. In groups, students will investigate and analyze the forces that led to the creation of the Roman Empire. For homework over the weekend, students will have a worksheet concerning the rise of Augustus and a primary source reading by Augustus.
